Deep Breaths: Tips To Ease Election Day Stress

Raise your hand if the 2020 presidential election is causing stress in your life. I’d wager that many of you can relate to recent research suggesting over two-thirds of Americans are reporting election-related stress. If 2020 wasn’t stressful enough, we are on the brink of a monumental election this coming November 3rd

So, you’re probably wondering, “how in the world am I supposed to cope?” Here are a few tips to keep yourself calm and collected on election day.

Vote!

If you haven’t already, check out your state’s voting requirements. Make sure you are registered and have a plan to cast your vote on or before November 3rd. Being a U.S. citizen grants you the privilege to vote and elect individuals to represent you. Your vote counts and will make a difference.

Detach from the News … (at least a little)

The news will be on-fire all day. It’s okay to turn it off and detach a little. The results will pour in, and we will know in due time who won the election. Since we’ve all felt a bit isolated and disconnected the past eight months, set up some time to be with family or friends (just be sure to practice COVID-19 precautions).

Look Beyond November 3rd

Be prepared for either candidate to win. If 2016 taught us anything, the shoo-in candidate is not guaranteed to win. You’ll be doing yourself a favor (and hopefully eliminating some unneeded stress) if you can look beyond election day and be hopeful about the future.

Embrace Self-Care

Prioritize taking care of yourself on election day. Get some good rest the night before, workout, meditate, and eat healthy. You function so much better when you put your body and mind front & center.
